Rebecca’s Lost Journals are a brilliant concept. Part of The Inside Out Series (See the entire series order here), the short novellas keep you excited and intrigued while waiting for the second full length novel in the series, Being Me, to release in June. Each one of these novellas are written as journals, and they are the journals that Sara, the main character in If I Were You never found. Rebecca’s Lost Journals 2: The Contract, is the second novella and third installment in the series.
The mystery in If I Were You is “What happened to the woman who wrote the journals? Who was Rebecca’s Master?” No, we still don’t have an answer, but a few more hints are dropped. Personally, I think the crafty Ms. Jones is dropping all these hints to throw us off, but it is fun reading about and trying to figure out anyway.
In this novella, Rebecca is left to mull over the submissive contract she received from “The Master”. As Rebecca goes over each point of the contract, she knows they are all too much for her, but she still can’t stop thinking of Him. She finds herself thrown off balance and not really sure of anything.
“I’ve gone from having virtually no men in my life to being surrounded by powerful, talented, rich, controlling men, and it’s messing with my head. I can’t seem to figure out where I stand and where I belong.”
One thing we do know for sure is Rebecca is involved with someone she has work dealings with.
“You will call me ‘Master’ when we’re alone,” he instructed next…”In public, we remain as we are. What we are beyond that is between us.”…And how am I to separate the times we meet for work with this?
There are a few encounters with the Master, hot scenes that include risk of being caught and menage.
- The author keeps us involved in the story and wanting more.
- The author drops tons of hints, while giving some crafty misleading clues as well.
- Little hints are dropped here and there, and while I think we are supposed to be thinking one way, maybe that’s to easy, or maybe she wants us to think it’s too easy? LOL
- The diary format is a very unique read.
- I felt very detached from the totally hot sex scenes. They did nothing for me.
- The book ends at 74%, where there is another preview of If I Were You.
Rating: 4.5 Stars (for a novella) 4 for Heat
While I normally really don’t love the serial novel concept, I think this idea is brilliant, having little teaser novels between book releases just builds up the excitement more. And as a person who normally doesn’t pay attention to minute details, this series has me reading and re-reading to catch more details.
We know the Master is light, we know they have work relations, we know he is rich…..what do you guys think? I think Lisa Renee Jones is pointing to Mark, but it just seems too obvious. Theories? Ideas? Discuss it here!
